Queanbeyan Players are 50!
The Queanbeyan Players are celebrating 50 years of theatre in the Queanbeyan region in 2015!
To mark this wonderful achievement, QP is holding a two week exhibition at The Q, starting off with an Exhibition Launch Party on Monday 14th September from 6pm. We are together for two hours of celebration, including live performances, food and drink, and the sharing of stories from Queanbeyan Players young and old! We are also holding a special raffle on the night when attendees could win a double pass to our next wonderful production – The Mikado – and lots of other great prizes. Come along and hear the Mikado cast perform some of the wonderful music from this classic G&S show, along with Eliza and her cockney mates performing ‘Wouldn’t It Be Loverly’ from our most recent sell out production, My Fair Lady. There will also be songs from past productions, including a special performance from Jude Colquhoun as the Mother Abbess from the Sound of Music. Jude received a CAT Award nomination for her role in this 2014 production.
In order for us to really celebrate our 50th birthday, we have been inviting sponsorship from Queanbeyan business who have generously donated raffle prizes, food donations and of course, a wonderful birthday cake! So far the following businesses have offered to help out: Canton Chinese Restaurant, Ciao Cafe, Fourth Seed Cafe, Royal Hotel, Just Cuts, Anglicare, Beautiful Gifting, and Debbie Maree’s Fashion Boutique. Representatives from these businesses have been invited to the opening to share in the celebrations and be acknowledged for their generosity.
We have also been amassing an amazing array of costumes, props, photos, posters, programmes and paraphernalia from past shows – 1965 to 2015. The display is going to be fantastic. Also huge thanks to those QP members past and present, old and new, who have given us some of their time and allowed us to interview them about their QP experiences. In particular we would like to thank Norma Roach, one of our founding members, for agreeing to be interviewed and for sharing her wonderful memories of the early days of theatre in Queanbeyan. Attendees will be able to see and hear snippets from these interviews at the exhibition as well as excerpts from many of the hundred or so shows that Queanbeyan has produced over 50 years.
Exhibition dates: Monday 14th September to Friday 25th September
