Welcome To The Sticks
(Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis)

The most successful French film of all time!

Run time: 1hr 46 mins
Rating: M

A film phenomenon in its home country of France, the hilarious Welcome To The Sticks (Bienvenue Chez Les Ch’tis) is a heart-warming comedy and the most successful French film of all time.

It tells the story of Philippe Abrams, a post office manager who, in an effort to please his wife, tries at any cost to obtain a transfer to a seaside town on the French Riviera. In desperation Philippe even pretends to be disabled in order to secure the cushy job. He’s found out and, as a punishment, banished to the distant unheard of town of Bergues in the Far North of France.
Here he envisages a hellish life in a dreadfully cold place inhabited by hard-drinking, unemployed rednecks, speaking an incomprehensible dialect called Ch’tis. Philippe soon realises his ideas are nothing but prejudices and that Bergues is not synonymous with hell …

In addition to the movie, the night includes an address by John Bale, CEO and co-founder of Soldier On, a charity which supports Australian service men and women who have been wounded, physically or psychologically in contemporary conflicts.
