Immersed in Nature

Jenny Sheppard 2

John Murphy – Woodwork & Jenny Sheppard – Paintings

Collaboration with Woodworker John Murphy has inspired painter Jenny Sheppard with her

last 4 exhibitions. Now they are gearing up to another combined exhibition called ‘immersed in
Nature’ at The Q Exhibition space from 17 – 28 March 2015.
Since Jenny’s first solo exhibition in Gundaroo in 1988, she has produced detailed paintings that
highlight the beauty of the local Australian landscape from ACT to the South Coast.
After Graduating from Canberra School of Art in 1980, Jenny was offered work drawing
architectural impressions for Real estate agents. This style of graphic works has been somewhat
reflected in her paintings and she still enjoys architectural subjects from time to time.
Recently Jenny’s painting style has become more expressionistic, a move away from her usual
impressionistic style, which she believes is due to a conscious loosening and interpretive
approach to the subject matter. ‘In this current exhibition, there is a definite feeling of what it
is like to be in the landscape; to experience its power and presence.’
John Murphy’s wood work practice started as a hobby many years ago. Now John is well known
and highly regarded for his wildlife carvings for which he uses both local and exotic timbers.
John’s theme for the exhibition also reflects his sense of involvement in nature.
Together the two bodies of work invite the viewer to become ‘Immersed in Nature’.
