CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS
The National Capital Orchestra, conducted by Leonard Weiss, takes you on a whimsical journey involving a zoo full of animals and the fairy-tale world of the Arabian Nights, as well as some lively dances.
The concert starts with the Russian Sailor’s Dance by Reinhold Glière. This will be followed by Slavonic Dances by Antonin Dvořák, Nos. 3, 5, 7 and 8 from his Opus 46 set.
The orchestra will then be joined by outstanding pianists James Huntingford and Andrew Rumsey to present the much-loved Carnival of the Animals Suite by Camille Saint-Saëns, his ‘salute to feathers, fur and fins”.
The concert will conclude with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s wonderful portrayal of the the 1001 Nights legend of Scheherazade and some of her stories as told to King Shahryar of Persia.
